Working in the Netherlands - Work Disputes - Strikes

Approximately 1.9 million people in the Netherlands are members of a trade union. This means that 27 of every 100 members of the working population are trade union members. 

• With over 1.2 million members (around 60 percent of all trade union members), the Dutch Trade Union Federation (FNV) is by far the biggest trade union federation in the Netherlands. 

• The Federation of Christian Trade Unions (CNV) represents around 18 percent of trade union members. 

• The MHP, which represents middle and senior ranking staff, accounts for 8 percent. Other trade union members are affiliated to an organisation representing a particular category. 

These are trade unions that do not cooperate in a central federation and usually represent a specific occupational group.
